The End!

I really enjoyed this experience and feel that I have learned alot. I hope we can start utilizing some of what we learned very soon before I forget it:)! I do not have a Facebook account so I was unable to browse around our page. However, I did look around our MySpace page. There is so much we can do with these social networking sites...we are already do several things. I think it is great that we are using the sites to promote our programs and collections. Is there a way that one message could be sent to all our friend? This would be very beneficial in promoting programs. The pictures are wonderful! I can't say enough...this has been a terrific learning experience!

Podcasts & YouTube

I did not create a Podcast but I did add a podcast and YouTube access to my Google account. Both were really easy! Since I have recently got addicted to the Dexter show (the library owns the books and Season 1 & 2 on DVD), I decided to add the Dexter podcast available through Podcast Ally. I then watched a video on YouTube about a teen summer reading program and was given a prompt to add YouTube to IGoogle. It is really neat how you can direct so many thing to one area, in my case, it is my Google account. I do not have to search for the web for the things that I like the most.

Tagging & Del.icio.us

Well I learned alot this week. Out of the five perspectives presented, I really enjoyed Into a new world of librarianship the most. It reminded us as librarians that we are here for our users. We need to find out what they need and provide it not tell them what we want to do for them. Of course, we will begin this process very soon when we start the planning process of which I am very excited!

I really like the potential of Del.icio.us. I have sites bookmarked on every computer I use. However, I do not have all of them at every computer. Some time in the future (after school), I plan to organize all my sites using a Del.icio.us account. This will allow me to access them no matter where I am at. I also think this would be yet another great Readers Advisory tool.

Finally, I have played around with the tagging concept but not totally sold on it. However, I think it would be great if there was a way that staff and customers could add tags to our collection. The tags could direct users to other material that they may enjoy. Hopefully, the new ILS system will allow us to do different things like this.

Wiki and Google Docs

I think the DCPL could use a Wiki for several things...

1. We could use it during Planning to inform staff of the progress.
2. Changes in policies and/or procedures could be updated on a Wiki.
3. I think it would be a great Reader's Advisory tool to inform customers and staff of what we are currently reading...another way to promote our collection.
4. I like the current page of who is in charge of what at the library.

I also like Google Docs. The PLA group used it in October to share notes from the bootcamp that we attended in Cleveland. It is a great feature.
